Reduce Your Risk of Identity Theft
Arizona Federal offers a great new product to safeguard your identity.
Arizona is number one in identity theft, according to Federal Trade Commission in 2004. On average, ID theft takes 13 months to discover and 175 hours to fix the problems it causes!
You can take steps to protect yourself from identity theft with these nine tips.
- Never give out personal information to someone you don’t know.
- Remove your Social Security number and Driver’s License number from checks and other forms of ID.
- Buy a cross-cut paper shredder. Shred any documents that contain personal information.
- Receive and send your mail in a locked secure mailbox or post office mailbox.
- Confirm the legitimacy of a business before giving out any personal information.
- Ask how the business intends to use your information.
- Ask how they store and dispose of the information to protect your identity.
- Review your financial statements for accuracy – pay attention to your billing cycles and call if a bill does not show up.
- Carefully watch your credit and/or debit card being swiped.
- Use virus and spyware software for your computer.
- Never open a file from an unknown source.
- When disposing of a computer, use a “wipe” utility program.
- Sign up for a credit monitoring service.
To help you stay informed and protected, Arizona Federal has partnered with Identity Safeguards to offer IDefend, a program that includes education, monitoring and reparation.
